This website often carries news reports from the North West Region of British Movement. As a northern-based website reporting on events in the North of England, that is to be expected. But not all of our reports cover purely political activities. We also regularly cover more social and sporting activities, including boxing and martial arts, that BM comrades partake in.
For instance, in early May, BM North West activists hiked to a quarry for a hands-on climbing and abseiling session, where they practised essential skills such as knot tying and anchor building.
For those readers who are not familiar with abseiling, the British Mountaineering Council describes it as follows: “Abseiling involves descending rope(s) using a friction device (e.g. belay device) attached to your harness. It’s used to tackle terrain that would be too dangerous or time-consuming to descend on foot.”

Abseiling and climbing encourage trust, courage, and mutual support, while hiking promotes teamwork, resilience, and shared achievement. Together, these activities foster a stronger sense of unity among our comrades.
