Egg Dumplings Are No ‘Yoke’ In Modern Austria
Back in April 2021, this website published a post regarding an Austrian policeman who was convicted of publishing a photo of a plate of egg dumplings with green salad. The police officer was given a suspended prison sentence of ten months at the Eisenstadt regional court on Monday 12th April. He had posted the image of the dish on Adolf Hitler’s birthday.

Fast forward to 2026 and we find a FPÖ (Freedom Party of Austria) politician, Leo Lugner, convicted of making “references to egg dumplings on April 20th”. The ‘crime’ occurred nine years ago “in private chats”. The FPÖ politician must perform 160 hours of community service for this ‘neo-Nazi’ activity.
The Mayor of Vienna expressed outrage at the news. “National Socialist ideology, antisemitism, racism, and misanthropy have no place in our democratic society”.
The pan-fried dish is considered Adolf Hitler’s favourite food. For this reason, people in Austria who celebrate with egg dumplings on April 20th are repeatedly convicted.
