In the light of recent events in Middlesborough, British Movement Northern region takes an ideologically centred look at what has happened to this once prosperous Teesside town.
Middlesborough was once a centre for heavy industry, a generator pf jobs, wages and employment , in its day it was an industrial and economic power-house that drew people into ‘Boro’ from across the North East, Yorkshire and Teesside.
For too many decades Middlesborough has been under the political domination of the Labour Party and the trade unions, decades of control by the political Left has reduced the town to a degenerate ghost of its former self racked by organised crime, anti-social behaviour and illegal drugs.
A quick look at the official government population figures tells a story of decline. It is a fact that many White British working age people have left Middlesborough only to be replaced by increased numbers of ‘immigrants’.
Ethnic diversity
Middlesbrough is the most ethnically diverse local authority area in the Tees Valley, with a British Minority Ethnic population of 17.6% identified at Census 2021. This is an increase of 51% since 2011, and is projected to grow further.
82.36% of Middlesbrough’s resident population was classed as White (with various sub-groups).
This was lower than the North East rate of 90.04% but higher than the England rate of 81.05%.
Middlesbrough is the second most ethnically diverse local authority in the North East, behind Newcastle upon Tyne (with 79.97% classed as White).
*** Note for our readers when government produced reports such as this use expressions like; “White (with various sub-groups)”. What the civil servants behind the wording mean are Irish, Polish, East Europeans, Scandinavians, Canadians, Australians etc. In other words racial kindred to the White British population of North Yorkshire….
10.49% were classed as Asian / Asian British (with sub-groups). This is higher than the North East rate of 3.70% and the England rate of 9.61%. Again, Middlesbrough is behind Newcastle upon Tyne on this measure (with 11.37%). However Middlesbrough has the highest percentage in the Tees Valley.
2.09% of the population was identified as Mixed / Multiple ethnic groups (with sub-groups). This was higher than the North East rate of 1.26%, but less than the national rate of 2.96%. Again, Middlesbrough is behind Newcastle upon Tyne (at 2.31%). However Middlesbrough does have the highest percentage in the Tees Valley.
2.65% of the population was identified as Black / Africa / Caribbean / Black British. This was higher than the North East rate of 1.01%, but lower than the England rate of 4.22%. Middlesbrough is behind Newcastle upon Tyne on this measure (at 3.31%).
Once again Middlesbrough has the highest percentage in the Tees Valley.
2.41% of the population was identified as ‘Other Ethnic Group’. This was higher than both the England rate of 2.18% and the North East rate of 1.00%. Middlesbrough is behind Newcastle upon Tyne (at 3.05%). However Middlesbrough has the highest percentage in the Tees Valley.
12.29% of Middlesbrough’s total population was born outside the UK (Census 2021). This was lower than the England rate of 17.35%, but almost double the North East rate of 6.77%.
Middlesbrough has the highest percentage of residents born outside the UK in the Tees Valley. However it is second behind Newcastle upon Tyne in the North East.
9.85% of asylum seekers in the North East were reported to be living in Middlesbrough as of the end of June 2023 (asylum statistics – House of Commons Library). Newcastle upon Tyne has the highest rate with 22.75%, followed by Gateshead with 12.83%, and Stockton-on-Tees with 12.18%. This places Middlesbrough fourth in the North East and second in the Tees Valley. The North East has 6.10% of asylum seekers in the UK.
ONS reports a rise in the number of non-British nationals per 1,000 of the resident population, with 51.1 in 2011 and 78.95 in 2021. This is higher than the North East (27.7 rising to 40.53) and lower than England (83.5 rising to 99.66).
Given those depressing statistics it is clear that despite the declining industrial base and employment rates, Middlesborough cannot escape the Third World invasion of the Great Replacement.
In the aftermath of the Southport Atrocity in 2024, there were outbreaks of violence in some districts of Middlesborough, some of it motivated by anger at events in Southport, some of it the result of criminals seizing the opportunity to commit robberies and looting while police were involved in controlling the riots.
Not surprisingly, given the immediate response of the Labour government to place all the blame for public disorder on the “Far-Right”, the mainstream news media leapt aboard the government approved storyline. Here are a few examples relating to the unrest in Middlesborough.
4th August 2024
“Thirty-five people have been arrested after cars were set alight and missiles thrown at police during violence in Middlesbrough described as “staggering”. The unrest spread during a protest which started at the town’s cenotaph on Sunday afternoon.”
“Cleveland Police said on Sunday evening “violent crowds” had mostly dispersed, but officers were still in the area dealing with some disorder. Assistant Chief Constable David Felton said: “The level of violence we have seen today is staggering. We know the shocking scenes across Middlesbrough today will have caused alarm amongst communities.
“Houses and cars had their windows smashed, while cans and bottles were also thrown towards some shops on Linthorpe Road. The windows of a Teesside University building were also broken.”
Note: The ‘woke’ reference in the official statement by Cleveland Police with the reference to, “will have caused alarm amongst communities.” Not a reference to the population of Middlesborough as a single, united community, but as a collection of different “communities”. Clearly echoing the approved position of the Labour government that the riots were being aimed at
so-called ‘minority communities’.
This leftist or ‘progressive’ viewpoint was repeated in a number of media reports, throughout the emphasis was to lay the blame on the so-called ‘Far-Right’ and to deflect attention away from the initial cause of the unrest, the Southport Atrocity.
This from Teesside University: “We will not allow those intent on causing disruption and division to impact on our core business – to transform lives and economies through education”.
Middlesbrough and Thornaby East MP Andy McDonald described the scenes across the town as “sickening”. And once again Cleveland Police repeated the Labour government mantra: “Cleveland police and crime commissioner Matt Storey said those committing violence “do not represent” the town. “Their message of hate and division will fail,” he said. “Now, more than ever, we will come together across Cleveland to unite in a spirit of solidarity and togetherness. “Our diversity is our strength and we will prevail.”
Again and again the repeated message that somehow those who were angry about Southport were motivated and directed by external political forces, driven by ‘racist’ Nationalist ideas which are totally alien to multiracial, multicultural Middlesborough. There is no admission that some of the violence and looting was by criminal opportunists, not politically motivated, nor that some individual rioters and looters were in fact non-whites.

In the run up to 4 August, a network of right wing groups agitated for protests across the UK. This was an exploitative response to the tragic deaths of three children in Southport. Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform Party, exploited the tragedy more than anyone else. In Middlesbrough, a ‘peaceful’ protest, planned to start at the Cenotaph on Linthorpe Road, was to be anything but.”

“Cleveland Police prepared to monitor a ‘peaceful’ march to Centre Square. But hundreds of masked vandals had been given their online instructions. They dodged away from the march, and eventually headed down side streets such as Garnet Street and Princes Road into the Gresham district. Gresham was where the real action was planned. These hooligans, many of them teenage boys, were
being directed by cowardly armchair generals sitting in their bedrooms hundreds of miles away.
“Gresham Ward has one of the highest concentrations of asylum seekers and refugees in Teesside. Six months on, the residents are still traumatised and fearful.”
And this almost unbelievable ‘Woke’ nonsense from TEESIDE LIVE;
“Middlesbrough riots: People jailed for 2024 violent disorder invited to research family history. There were incidents of violent disorder around the UK following three fatal stabbings in Southport at the end of July. People who were handed jail terms for their role in last summer’s violent disorder are to be invited to research their family history to highlight how migration has helped shape Middlesbrough.”
The inference being that the majority population of Middlesborough were somehow descended from ‘immigrants’. Not only that but the bizarre reference to a local government funded “Africa Day celebration in the Hill Street Shopping Centre.”
“Middlesbrough Council was awarded £655,000 from the government fund which is designed to reduce the risk of further disorder in the future, rebuild social trust and promote cohesion. Almost £200,000 of that total has now been distributed to community-led projects. Others funded include a creative arts programme titled Pieces of Us. It will see schools and community groups explore topics of identity and social challenges through art and writing. Large jigsaw pieces will be created that will eventually connect to symbolise unity and the town’s strength.
“One of the first events to be funded saw more than 50 women come together at St Margaret’s Church Hall in Brookfield for an afternoon tea that featured Middlesbrough street bingo and other nostalgia. And late last month, the fund supported the Africa Day celebration in the Hill Street Shopping Centre.”
All the above media quotes demonstrate how Middlesborough has declined over decades of neo-liberalism and Labour Party socialism, civic pride has been undermined, criminality has replaced communal solidarity and population displacement through the importation of non-European minorities the sense of community and shared social and moral values.
Instead of spouting official Labour Party rhetoric about, “Our diversity is our strength and we will prevail.” Cleveland Police should have targeted the criminal gangs running illegal drugs across Middlesborough. That at least would have been a start. The mainstream media has projected an image of Middlesborough as a settled population made up of many ethnic groups and faiths, the progressive liberal, leftist vision as resented by both Cleveland Police and commentators like North East Bylines.
The political Left has collectively ignored the history, heritage and traditions of Middlesborough. It is a historic settlement on the North Yorkshire side of the River Tees and as such has a long history of a local culture shaped by centuries. Until the late 19th Century the population here was exclusively White British and White European.
Middlesborough needs to rid itself of the imported ‘diversity’ and requires a major injection of racial and national awareness. The Fourteen Words needs to become the focus for the indigenous British population of Middlesborough. Middlesborough needs National Socialism.
