The invasion of the Spanish North African enclave of Ceuta by up to 60,000 Moroccans, made headlines the world over. President Trump referred to the influx of migrants as a “catastrophe” and an “invasion,” attributing it to what he described as Spain’s “weak” and “very liberal” laws. Additionally, the U.S. State Department took to social media to hold Sánchez’s migration-friendly policies responsible for the crisis.
Never one to miss a trick, Zia Yusuf, Reform UK’s Home Affairs spokesman, also put in an appearance. Yusuf, the son of Sri Lankan Muslims who emigrated to the UK in the early 1980s, tweeted on X: “I am in Ceuta, the scene of the 60,000 strong invasion. Spain has effectively militarised its border. Already spoken to Moroccan men here who say they are trying to get to Britain. More to come.”
But behind this ‘Camp of the Saints’ style third world invasion, darker forces are at work. The crisis in Ceuta has ignited a heated discussion regarding Israel’s potential involvement in actions aimed at penalising Madrid for its vocal backing of Palestine.
Spain firmly supports the establishment of an independent Palestinian state (along with Norway and Ireland), and officially recognised Palestine on May 28, 2024. Going further, it has implemented arms controls regarding Israel, and its proactive legal and diplomatic assistance on the global stage. To rub salt into the wound, it has joined South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Israel denounced the measures as anti-Semitic (yawn), prompting Spain to recall its ambassador for consultations. Back in April, analysts associated with Israel-funded think tanks claimed that Israel should aid Morocco in taking control of Ceuta to penalise Spain.
Israel is a state that believes in the biblical law of “an eye for an eye” (Exodus 21:24-25). The verse in question, discusses a fight between two Jews, says the following: “…an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, a foot for a foot; a burn for a burn, a wound for a wound, a bruise for a bruise.” This is known as the “The Law Of Retaliation.” It was only a matter of time before Spain would be punished.
The strong military and intelligence ties between Morocco and Israel have also fuelled this speculation. In 2021, the two nations entered into a defence agreement that included collaboration on intelligence, military purchases, and defence industries. Since then, Israeli drones and various weapons have played a growing role in Morocco’s efforts to modernise its military.
In March, Israeli sources disclosed that Michael Rubin, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, urged Morocco to initiate a new “Green March” towards the Spanish enclaves. In an article for the US-based Middle East Forum, Rubin proposed that Moroccans should approach Ceuta and Melilla with bulldozers, enter the territories peacefully, and hoist the Moroccan flag. He presented this idea as a reaction to what he described as Spain’s hypocrisy regarding anti-colonialism.
Back in the real world, the Moroccans in Ceuta soon realised the consequences of looting every store in sight, forcing them to close. Reports emerged of hungry illegals fighting each other for scraps of food on the streets. Meanwhile, as his country was being invaded, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez posted a video on Instagram telling people what music he listens to on his mobile phone.
