The new breed of citizen journalists/auditors are beginning to get under the skin of the Marxist left. At any pro-Palestine march or rally, trans-rights demo or asylum hotel protest, the YouTube content creators will be there recording the action, which will then be uploaded to their monetised social media channels.
Originally, the citizen journalists made a big thing of their impartiality, allowing them to mingle with both sides of any demonstration, often with the approval of the police, who had become familiar with and, to a certain extent, supportive of their right to film both sides.
Recently we have noticed a sea change in how they are regarded by the left. The Marxist rag Searchlight has featured a number of posts recently attacking what it terms ‘YouTube Clickbait Merchants’, in particular Manchester-based Charlie Veitch.
Searchlight magazine, which has spent 50 years photographing and naming anyone it considered ‘far-right’, recently accused Veitch of “deliberately seeking to cause trouble, and obviously great offence, he walked right to the front of the march sticking his mobile phone in everyone’s faces.”
Veitch has his own inimitable style of reporting. Interjecting humour, sarcasm and the odd flash of real anger into his video commentary, he has managed to carve out his own unique niche in a crowded field. The video below was taken outside of the Cresta Court Hotel – Altrincham, Greater Manchester, last Saturday and has received over 440k views in only 4 days. No wonder the reds are upset.
