Digital ID cards: Immigration crackdown or privacy threat?

digital ID system

Keir Starmer is under intense pressure to clamp down on migrants and asylum seekers arriving on small boats from France. Digital IDs are Starmer’s latest attempt to slow migration, with more than 111,000 people claiming asylum in the year ending June 2025, a 14% rise on the previous 12 months.

Our current focus is raising public awareness about Starmer’s proposed digital ID system, which we believe poses serious risks to individual liberty and national identity. Everything about the digital ID represents a step away from British values of privacy, freedom, and personal responsibility.

Across the country, BM comrades have been engaging directly with the public – handing out informative leaflets, starting conversations, and participating in nationwide awareness campaigns. Our goal is to ensure that every citizen understands the potential dangers of this policy before it becomes reality.

Key Concerns About the Digital ID

There are numerous reasons to be cautious about the introduction of a national digital ID system, including:

Data breaches – centralised databases are prime targets for hackers.
Identity theft – stolen credentials could be misused with devastating consequences.
Fraud – more personal data in one place increases vulnerability to scams.
Government overreach – excessive monitoring of citizens’ private lives.
Political restriction – potential control over access to services or participation.
Privacy violations – loss of anonymity and personal freedom.
Freedom loss – the state gains control over personal identification and movement.
Resource division – potential discrimination in access to public resources.
Trust erosion – undermines public confidence in institutions.
Corporate power – technology giants may profit from citizens’ data.
Surveillance state – continuous monitoring under the guise of security.
Human rights concerns – interference with basic liberties and autonomy.
Social credit systems – potential for ranking citizens based on behaviour.
Totalitarian control – concentration of power through digital monitoring.
Cashless society – loss of financial independence and privacy.

Many of us warned about these dangers as early as 2020, when we were dismissed as conspiracy theorists. Yet today, our concerns are proving valid as plans for digital identification move closer to implementation.

Community Action
Our comrades have also continued their community clean-up efforts, with litter-picking initiatives taking place across the nation. These activities reflect our shared love for Britain and our dedication to preserving its beauty, freedom, and integrity.

The love for our great nation burns bright – and our commitment to defending its people and principles remains stronger than ever
