Welcome to the latest post in our new “At Least We’re Not Speaking German” series. In a recent, widely watched interview, Tory reactionary Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg clashed with American commentator Tucker Carlson over his views on World War II and Adolf Hitler. Rees-Mogg is a former employee of J Rothschild Investment Management.
Rees-Mogg defended the UK’s wartime actions, stating that otherwise, “We’d be speaking German.” Carlson responded with, “Who cares? There are a lot of people in Britain who can’t speak English.” Rees-Mogg recently released a video in which he stated: “The English are a mongrel people, not an Aryan master race.”
Burnham Bounce
Under Prime Minister Burnham, the daily rate of small boats crossing the English Channel is higher than under Sunak and Starmer. GB News revealed that the equivalent of one every 15 minutes has been arriving. In the three months since he became PM, over 10,000 have invaded. During the weekend beginning Thursday 29th October until sunday 1st November over 1,670 arrived in 23 ‘small’ boats.
Since 2018, more than 200,000 people have attempted to reach Britain illegally by crossing the English Channel in small boats, many travelling in inflatable dinghies. A large proportion subsequently apply for asylum once they arrive.
The continuing Channel crossing crisis has put enormous pressure on Britain’s already overstretched asylum system. A report published by the National Audit Office in May 2025 estimated that the system could cost the taxpayer more than £15 billion over a ten-year period.
With local authorities struggling to find suitable accommodation, many asylum seekers have ended up being housed in hotels at considerable public expense. Since 2019, the government has awarded ten-year accommodation contracts to three companies – Serco, Clearsprings and Mears – with the agreements reportedly worth a combined £4 billion.
The scale of the hotel bill became particularly apparent in 2022, when it emerged that accommodating asylum seekers in hotels was costing around £5.6 million every day. A further £1.2 million a day was being spent on accommodation for Afghan evacuees. To put that figure into perspective, £5.6 million is equivalent to paying for approximately 73,000 basic visits to an NHS Accident and Emergency department.
In 2022, 90% of the 45,755 small boat arrivals claimed asylum.
In 2023, 95% of the 29,437 small boat arrivals claimed asylum.
In 2024, 95% of the 36,816 small boat arrivals claimed asylum.
Change The People And You Change The Nation
A court has heard disturbing details of an attempted rape involving a homeless woman who was either dying or already dead inside a tent in Bradford city centre.
Bradford Crown Court heard that Hassan Shah, 26, was caught on CCTV entering the woman’s tent on Kirkgate on the morning of November 8, 2025. Footage showed him lying beside the unconscious woman before pulling down her clothing, making no attempt to speak to her or establish whether she was alive.
Opening the case, Mr Wright told the jury that the woman remained completely motionless throughout the incident. “The reason that she did not move is that she was either dying or in fact dead at the time,” he said. “She had taken synthetic cannabis or ‘spice’ and a lot of alcohol and that is what caused her death.” The court heard that by the time emergency services arrived, the woman had died.
Shah’s behaviour show a total disregard for another human being’s most basic dignity. Judge Kirstie Watson adjourned the case until December to allow reports to be prepared before deciding Shah’s fate.
Finding that he is unfit to plead, Shah cannot receive a prison sentence for the offence. Instead, the judge must decide whether he should be committed to hospital, placed under supervision or discharged altogether.
The Sickening World of Monkey Torture
People who take pleasure in watching animals being tortured, mutilated or deliberately made to suffer display something deeply disturbing about their character. The deliberate infliction of pain on a helpless creature for entertainment is not simply a matter of bad taste or curiosity; it represents a shocking absence of compassion and a callous disregard for the suffering of another living being. Anyone who finds amusement, excitement or satisfaction in such cruelty deserves the harshest punishment.
Monkey hate is a form of zoosadism where humans have a hatred for monkeys, particularly macaque, and take pleasure in their suffering. Baby macaques are the main target of abuse in online circles centred around monkey hate.
The organiser behind an international network involved in the torture and killing of monkeys for entertainment has been sent to prison. Bartosz Poklek was responsible for distributing what the court described as “horrific” videos, which were sold for hundreds of pounds. He also went as far as writing instructions and scripts detailing how the animals should be abused and eventually killed.
Poklek, aged 30 and from Bexley in south-east London, admitted operating a large-scale monkey torture network over a period spanning June 2023 to September 2025. At Woolwich Crown Court, he received a prison sentence of three years and three months.
Passing sentence, Judge Christopher Grout described the case in exceptionally strong terms, telling the court:
“It is no exaggeration to say that as a lawyer or as a judge I have never encountered such a horrific case of animal abuse in my life.”
The judge went on to expose the existence of what he described as a vile underground community, whose members harbour a particular hatred of monkeys, especially baby monkeys, and derive pleasure from watching them being tortured and killed.
Judge Grout also raised serious concerns about the punishment available for offences of this nature. Under the Sentencing Act 2026, Poklek is expected to serve approximately one-third of his sentence
