The New Mayors of Rotherham and Sheffield

A Prophecy of the Future for Other Northern Cities?

Is there a shift in British politics towards a more assertive Islamist element, particularly from Pakistani Muslims?

Earlier this year, the Scottish Labour Party leader Anas Sarwar made a provocative speech while standing in front of the flag of Pakistan. Anas Sarwar’s speech was not widely reported by the mainstream media but certainly covered on this website and also on the BM Scotland blog and the BM Northland Forum.

Reproduced below is just part of one critical overseas media report: “Scottish leader Anas Sarwar asks Pakistanis to ‘take power’, causes massive social media outrage; Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar has come under fierce criticism after a video emerged where he stood in front of a Pakistani flag and called on Pakistanis to “take power in councils, parliament, political parties and countries” so that they can “dictate what’s taught in schools.”

In the going viral video, Sarwar announced, “A change is coming,” urging South Asians to become “more politically and educationally powerful.” Is the shift in UK politics called for by Anas Sarwar taking place? Consider the evidence offered by the election of a new Lord Mayor in Sheffield and a new Mayor and a deputy Mayor in Rotherham.

Of course left-wing and liberal journalists in the regional news media think this shift in local politics is wonderful; note the gushing press announcements from both Sheffield and Rotherham.

“Sheffield makes history with appointment of first Black hijab-wearing woman as Lord Mayor”

“Labour Cllr Safiya Saeed has been voted in as the new Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Sheffield and inaugurated at Sheffield City Council’s Annual General Meeting. Proud family members from the country of Somaliland were among those seated in the chamber during the ceremony, to watch the single mother of five be named the 128th Lord Mayor of Sheffield.”

“It’s a deeply personal victory for Safiya, who arrived in Sheffield back in 1985 and has since dedicated her life to public service and community activism. Her journey from immigrant teenager to the city’s top civic figure is nothing short of inspirational.”

While the new Lord Mayor of Sheffield is Somali, not Pakistani, her election will satisfy the Islamists. And an almost mirror image is offered from Rotherham. “A new mayor and deputy are set to be appointed in Rotherham this week as part of the borough council’s annual meeting, with Labour councillors Rukhsana Ismail and Haroon Rashid nominated to step into the top civic roles for 2025/26.

“The meeting will take place at 2pm on May 16 at Rotherham Town Hall, where councillors are expected to confirm councillor Ismail as the next mayor of Rotherham and councillor Rashid as deputy mayor.

“In a ceremony rich with tradition and personal pride, Councillor Rukhsana Ismail was officially sworn in as the Mayor of Rotherham for 2025–2026, becoming the borough’s 120th First Citizen and the latest custodian of a civic role that has stood for more than a century.”

It is a galling sight for British National Socialists and racial Nationalists to see the carefully posed and choreographed official photographs of these Mayors being sworn in wearing the traditional red robes and tri-corn hats, especially when those hats are being worn on top of the hajib headdress of a devout Muslim woman.

These images make a mockery of British traditions and heritage, and the Rotherham news report has the cheek to describe the swearing in ceremony as being “a ceremony rich with tradition.” It certainly is not! Did anyone mention the Great Replacement?

Sadly, this kind of political substitution is being repeated across the North of England and is not only falling in line with Anas Sarwar’s call for Pakistani Muslims to “take power in councils, parliament, political parties and countries”, but is offering a very real warning for the future.
