In August 2025, we published a post on this site regarding the construction of a so-called ‘Mega Mosque’ with additional buildings and car parks on a rural site near Dalton in Furness, Cumbria.
The £2.5m ‘South Lakes Islamic Centre’ is situated on the edge of the Lake District, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The 2021 Census figures show that the Muslim population of Cumbria as a whole is 0.4%, so why do they need a building of this size? Maybe the answer is on the front page of their own website: Our Vision – to make the South Lakes a place of choice for Muslim families. Of course, the local mainstream media and the old gang political parties are firmly in favour of the development, despite significant opposition from residents
The South Lakes Islamic Centre charity, led by a group of Muslim doctors working at Barrow’s Furness General Hospital, is behind the project. The group said the space would cater to the 40 to 50 practising Muslim doctors at Furness General Hospital and their families.
The ‘Mega Mosque’ was approved by Westmorland and Furness Council in 2022 after a planning process, despite protests and a petition reportedly garnering around 70,000 signatures against it. Residents have cited concerns like its size, the potential impact on the rural character, traffic, and lack of necessity, given the small Muslim population in the area.
It is often claimed by the MSM, politicians and the liberal left, that the meaning of the word Islam, is ‘peace’. In fact, the word ‘Islam’ comes from the verb “aslama”, meaning ‘to submit’, ‘surrender’, or ‘yield’. Watch the video below, produced by the South Lakes Islamic Centre from inside the structure, and think about these three little words.
