Strength Through Diversity 122: Fact Checking

fact-checking

A series of short posts on a topic close to London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s heart: “Diversity is our greatest strength.”

The events in Dublin continue to feature prominently in the media. In this follow-up post, we will clarify one of the inclusions in yesterday’s Strength Through Diversity post 121. We included an image and text describing how “French student Alan Loren-Guille disarmed the migrant and restrained him until the police came, saving many more lives.” We have been asked to fact-check this statement.

Putting ‘who stopped the Dublin knifeman’ into Google brings up the following headlines:

Thousands raised for Deliveroo driver who helped halt Dublin knife attack: Sky News
Dublin knifeman ‘stopped by Deliveroo driver’ as children stabbed in street: The Independent
Hero Brazilian Deliveroo rider tells how he ended school bloodbath: Daily Mail
Dublin stabbings: Deliveroo driver stops knife attacker: BBC
Dublin stabbings that sparked riots ended as Deliveroo driver ‘hit attacker with helmet’: Daily Mirror
Deliveroo rider took down Dublin knife attacker by smashing him with his helmet: The Metro
Dublin stabbing: Deliveroo driver praised for fighting off knifeman: The Times
Hero Deliveroo rider used helmet ‘as weapon’ to stop Dublin knifeman: The Sun

Despite the headlines, the true hero of the attack turned out to be a 17-year-old French student working in Dublin, just as we described in our post. Why did the media ignore this real-life hero and give all the praise to a Brazilian Deliveroo driver?

“People say the protests are against immigrants. I am an immigrant myself and I was the one to help.” There it is in a nutshell. Having a Brazilian immigrant as the hero served the narrative of our rulers.

The Sun admitted the truth early yesterday evening and described how ‘Alan Loren-Guille, who is just 17-years-old, selflessly ran to the aid of those involved in the attack after noticing a commotion on Dublin’s Parnell Square as he made his way to work at around 1.30pm yesterday.’

The restaurant where he works explained that Alan was not seriously injured in the frenzied attack, but he endured a “couple of cuts” to both his hand and face. He is a French stagiaires (trainee) at the popular Dublin 8 restaurant, Spitalfields.

Meanwhile…..

Mixed Martial Arts star Conor McGregor has been accused of fanning the flames after warning of “grave danger in Ireland”.

He said: “Innocent children ruthlessly stabbed by a mentally deranged non-national in Dublin, Ireland today.

“There is grave danger among us in Ireland that should never be here in the first place, and there has been zero action done to support the public in any way, shape or form with this frightening fact.

“NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Make change or make way. Ireland for the victory. God bless those attacked today, we pray.”
